Scrooms Beginner Guide: Your First Session
Start Scrooms with a clear first-session route: understand your first catch, equipment and quest progress, then choose a useful next objective.
Start in Songkeeper’s Grove: accept Leo’s Wooden Lute, land a catch, return to Leo, then sell a catch and buy the Tamer’s Guitar. Equip the guitar in the Equipment Bag and close the bag. The opening ends with Tutorial Complete; Leo then points you toward Halden.
Based on the PC opening recorded in October 2026 and the cited launch guides. The exact game build is unspecified; shop values can change.

Finish the opening in the order the tracker asks
Keep the objective text visible. Getting Started! completes before the later shop-and-equipment instructions finish, so a quest reward alone is not the end of the tutorial.
- Accept Leo’s giftFollow the opening arrow to Leo near the red houses. Talk to him, accept the Wooden Lute and select it in the hotbar. You can begin catching with this gift before spending Chimes.
- Catch once, then return to LeoPlay near a Scroom, finish the tuning stage and keep the creature in the catch zone until the bar fills. Talk to Leo after the catch. The recorded tracker changes to Sell your scroom to Julian, and the Getting Started! completion appears.
- Sell a catch and buy the guitarUse the merchant named by the tutorial, Julian in the recorded opening. The launch guide lists the Tamer’s Guitar at 100 Chimes. Check the purchase panel before confirming; the amount offered for a creature is a separate sale quote.
- Equip the purchase and close the bagOpen Equipment Bag, choose Instruments and press Equip on Tamer’s Guitar. An Equipped label distinguishes the active instrument from one you merely own. Close the bag to advance the tutorial.
- Read Leo’s next directionTutorial Complete appears, and Leo tells you that his uncle Halden is resting on a log somewhere in the Grove. That is the next quest lead.
What the starting reward pays for
The launch walkthrough records 1,350 XP and 125 Chimes for Getting Started! The inspected recording shows the character at level 4 with 125 Chimes after returning to Leo. A 100-Chime guitar therefore fits within that quest reward; a later sale changes your actual balance.
Buying another guitar is not a remedy for an unfinished equip objective. First check the Instruments tab for its Equipped state and close the bag. Read the Chimes guide for purchase budgeting.
Find Halden before chasing a new area
Look for Halden at a campfire beside two tents and a massive tree in the Grove. His next objective is to pay respects at five Weathered Statues. The reward is the Ocarina, which plays world-interaction songs.
If catching is still difficult, use the catching stages and progress rules before moving farther. The beginner route ends at this next-goal handoff; the five-statue route is a separate task.
